`Russian forces, they launch direct fire. Planes fly in the sky. Basically, they have all kinds of weapons. But the scariest is probably the tanks,` said Dmytro, a Guard soldier.

For Ukrainian soldiers, Russian artillery is also a serious threat, but tanks are even more dangerous.

`When a tank fires, you don’t even hear it. You can hear the plane when it flies by. But with a tank, your fate is in God’s hands,` Dmytro added.

According to the British Ministry of Defense, Ukraine has inflicted heavy losses on Russian armored forces, destroying about 2,600 main battle tanks since the start of the conflict and hundreds of tanks in just the past few months.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian army has recently struggled with a shortage of weapons and ammunition, especially in the context that an important aid package from the US has not yet been approved by the country’s parliament.

`It’s no longer a secret that we lack artillery shells. We try to attack as effectively and accurately as possible to hit the enemy’s fire,` said Nazariy, a drone pilot.

According to Ukrainian officials, in some areas, Russian attacks have increased in the past few days.

`The war situation is very fierce and very tense. The enemy has more equipment and more manpower. Basically, every day, they try to attack our positions,` Dmytro said.

The Russian military is promoting the defense industry to produce weapons as well as recruit more troops.

British intelligence said Russia’s ability to produce 100 tanks per month allowed Moscow to maintain its efforts to attack Ukraine at the same level despite suffering huge losses.

The British Ministry of Defense said on January 29 that Russia’s ground forces may have lost up to 365 main battle tanks since the beginning of October, meaning the loss of more than 100 tanks per month.

However, Britain believes that Russia is also capable of replacing its destroyed tank fleet at a similar rate.

The West has repeatedly said that Russia is running out of weapons and has no ability to compensate due to a series of sanctions.

The fact that Russia still maintains the ability to attack takes place in the context of increasingly trickle aid from the West to Ukraine, putting Kiev in a difficult position to achieve its goal of regaining territory from Moscow.

Ukraine has not received a new security aid package from the US for about a month.

`We will continue to work closely with Congress and call for additional funding as soon as possible,` Pentagon press secretary General Patrick Ryder said during a press conference on January 23.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he feared the lack of Western support would lead to `a lot of deaths and a lot of injuries`.
