“I thought things would change, but it’s true that we haven’t really introduced strong sanctions.

Although President Trump did not specifically say what sanctions the US plans to apply to Venezuela, the White House boss affirmed that Washington could be `much stronger` if necessary to do so.

One of the new and toughest sanctions imposed by the US government on Venezuela was the sanctions against the state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela in January.

However, the US has not yet sought to prevent companies outside the US from buying Venezuelan oil.

President Trump declared that all options are open with Venezuela

Both the US and Brazilian governments have spoken out to recognize opposition leader Juan Guaido after he declared himself interim president of Venezuela.

“What is happening is disgraceful.

The US leader once again called on Venezuelan security forces to `turn their back` on current President Nicolas Maduro.

“We call on members of the Venezuelan military to end their support for Mr. Maduro, who is really nothing more than a puppet of Cuba, and finally bring freedom to their people,” the President said.

President Trump also praised the humanitarian aid sent by the US to Venezuela.

“The people appreciate that aid and if the Maduro forces step aside, it could be a truly wonderful and successful humanitarian project,” the US president added.

Russia warns of US intentions to intervene militarily

Russia’s RIA news agency quoted Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov yesterday as saying that Moscow had warned the US not to intervene militarily in Venezuela after Washington left `all options` open for Caracas.

“We cannot consider what the US said, that all options to resolve the situation in Venezuela are being considered, as threats.

According to Deputy Minister Ryabkov, Russia opposes any US attempt to use humanitarian aid as an excuse to interfere in Venezuela’s internal affairs.

Also yesterday, Deputy Minister Ryabkov had a meeting with US Special Envoy for Venezuela Elliott Abrams in Rome, Italy to discuss the Venezuela issue.

“Perhaps we cannot narrow our stance on this issue.
