President Trump mentioned the wave of manufacturers leaving China to avoid US tariffs, damage to Chinese factories, and job loss due to tariffs.

Despite the above statements, consultant Pillsbury believes that President Trump is not trying to destroy the US-China trade link.

According to Mr. Pillsbury, President Trump is not pursuing a `second Cold War` or `containment` of China.

“We will see that the ‘black hand’ theory is wrong,” Mr. Pillsbury said, referring to China’s accusations that foreign agents, especially from the US, backed protesters in Hong Kong.

Mr. Pillsbury also blamed China for causing trade negotiations between the two countries to stall in May, while many people thought the two countries were close to reaching an agreement at that time.

Top US and Chinese trade officials are expected to resume talks in Washington next month.

Mr. Pillsbury said if the US and China can reach an agreement, it will be made in a face-to-face meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping – who have spoken `nearly 30 times`.
