The same six categories identified by Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, also include promoting the cult of money, using minors in videos related to luxury products, and `showing locality`.
Fabricating stories – such as a rags-to-riches life or having just returned from studying abroad – to market a product or defraud users is also in another prohibited category.
According to Douyin, the purpose of the ban is to promote `reasonable spending` and `civilized lifestyles`, as well as build a healthier community.
Along with making the announcement, this platform has also boldly `cleaned up` its system in recent weeks.
In a recent article on the social app WeChat, it was mentioned that videos flaunting wealth exist because they generate views and help sell products.
Another account shows one-on-one interviews with young Chinese people, in which respondents reveal the high prices of their clothes and accessories.
Flaunting wealth online has been a phenomenon in China since the 2000s, when blogging was the most developed social media platform.
